The one that started it all: 2018 marks the 200th anniversary of Mary Shelley’s classic Gothic Horror novel. When first published in 1818, Shelley was not even credited as the true creator of the monster, leading many to believe her husband wrote it (until the second French edition rightfully included her name). But we’ve come a long way since publication, Frankenstein and his monster going on to live a long life in film, television and stage, most notably as the classic Universal Monster movies Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein, starring the iconic Boris Karloff.

To celebrate this landmark anniversary, the Alamo Drafthouse DFW will be hosting the first-ever Frankenfest on Sunday, March 11. A true marathon for only the most-die-hard Franken-fans, this all-day event will begin with a double feature of both Frankenstein and The Bride of Frankenstein, followed by Young Frankenstein and, finally, the “Killingest, Swearingest, Monster-est Kids Movie of All Time”: The Monster Squad.

This is going to be a lot of fun (especially if, like us, sitting in a air-conditioned theatre for your entire Sunday watching old horror movies is your definition of fun). Check out one (or all) of these classic films at your local Alamo Drafthouse, as well as (hopefully) a Frankenstein-themed menu to go along with the fest. We will break out our torches and pitchforks if we don’t get to try some variation of Abby Normal brains, otherwise.
