I’ve gone on record (multiple times) to say that one of my favorite commentary tracks for a movie (or bonus feature, period) is from the Saw: Director’s Cut DVD. James Wan, Leigh Whannell and Cary Elwes bounce off one another, making jokes about their own movie and giving a lot of insight into how they got this iconic movie made. (If you want to read even more about me gushing over this commentary, check out my interview with Whannell himself, when he was in Dallas to promote his latest movie.)

During that interview, he hinted there is maybe another commentary track for Saw coming and that he would love to do one for Upgrade. As of last week, though, a tweet by the Whannell seems to confirm it: looks like we will be treated to a commentary track for Upgrade.

Upgrade was a movie that kind of flew under the radar until its release and currently sits as one of my favorite films of the year. It’s fast-paced with no room for bullshit, full of energy, with some violence that had multiple people in the theater scream (check out my full review here).

So … yeah, I’m kind of excited for this commentary track.

As of right now, the commentary is slated to just be part of the digital release, but Whannell said it should also be on the Blu-Ray (which I hope it is, because I am still a sucker for physical media).

Upgrade is out digitally on August 14th and on Blu-Ray / DVD on August 28th. (Until then, check out the director’s commentary for Saw. Trust me.)
